PSR 2000 USER Memory 

The PSR-2000 has about 700k of USER memory available while the PSR-2100 has twice that, about the equivalent of one floppy disk. You can store information in this "user" area of memory and it will remain there, even if your keyboard is turned off. However, turned off does not mean unplugged from the wall outlet. The Internal RAM Memory in the PSR2100/2000 is "volatile." Any user-stored data in this memory location such as Songs, Styles, System Setup data, Music Database information, etc. must be backed up to floppy disk, if the unit will be unplugged from an AC outlet for more than a week. If the unit is left unplugged for over a week, the data may be lost.

Anything that you save to USER memory can also be saved to a FLOPPY DISK. It is a good idea to save your USER memory files to one or more floppies and use the floppies as your primary storage device. The USER memory can be used for creating songs or styles, but once created, move them to a floppy disk and free up your limited user memory for additional work. Alternatively, you can put your very favorite external styles in user memory and keep additional favorites available on a floppy disk. This way, when you are playing you have, in addition to the preset styles, all the styles in the user area and the styles on the floppy disk currently in the keyboard. But, be sure those styles currently in the user area are also backed up safely on a floppy disk somewhere.

Other Ways to Lose Data

Another way that data may be lost, is if the storing procedure for System Setup data is performed incorrectly; on the PSR-2000, if a user changes the settings in a screen, they must remember to press the [EXIT] button afterward, before turning OFF the power, or the data is lost
